Day for Change

Friday 1 February will see thousands of school children in the UK joining together to raise money for children in The Gambia, West Africa, through UNICEF’s 20th annual Day for Change.

In return for a small donation, pupils will be encouraged to do something different for a day, such as swapping their school uniform for fancy dress or holding a school raffle. On Day for Change pupils will also be encouraged to learn more about the lives of children in The Gambia and teachers will be sent a free CD-ROM and a resources pack to help with this.

Money raised will help UNICEF to ensure that thousands of children in the Gambia have access to clean water and sanitation, things school children in the UK take for granted. However, for children in The Gambia, accessing clean water for their basic needs is a daily struggle and less than half of Gambians have access to proper sanitation facilities.
