51% of parents would move to get their child into a good school

A survey commissioned by The Children’s Society has found that half of parents (51%) would be prepared to move house in order to get their child into a good school.

Government challenges universities to identify and nuture talent

The Government has launched a detailed prospectus urging universities to become directly engaged in schools and academies. John Denham, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills and Schools Minister, Lord Adonis, launched the prospectus at University College London (UCL).

Children's Carbon Control

The winners of the Carbon Control competition were announced at the beginning of this week (9th October) at an awards event held by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts (RSA). The competition, held this summer term, was funded by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and was supported by Tesco. It and involved children submitting their ideas for combating climate change.

GCSE target is met early

Schools Minister, Jim Knight, has welcomed continued improvement in the proportion of pupils gaining five good GCSEs as the target of 60% of 15 year olds getting five A* to Cs was reached a year early.

Over a third of teachers not confident about teaching new diplomas

A survey has found that over a third (39%) of teachers feel ill equipped to deliver the new 14-19 diplomas.
